Joanna L. Jenkins, Ph.D., is a scholar-practitioner with a rich background spanning over 15 years at the intersection of research, creative, strategic communication industry and education. She is dedicated to driving insights and cultivating inclusive environments where culturally and ethically competent students and professionals can thrive in their education and careers. Joanna's experience includes K-12, collegiate, graduate, professional, and executive studies. Her educational expertise is anchored in designing inclusive curricula, developing custom learning experiences, implementing culturally informed teaching methods, applying universal learning design, and assessing program/curricula results.
Joanna champions the needs and leadership of historically excluded groups in education and professions, especially within the realms of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics), media, advertising and strategic communication.
With a dynamic career—including roles as Consultant, Coach, Associate Dean, Academic Program Coordinator, Professor, Creative Director, Designer and Strategist — Joanna has demonstrated a consistent record of success in engagement, strategic planning, research and learning and development.
A scholar with Rutgers University's Center for Leadership, Equity & Justice, her research and teaching includes a diverse array of interconnected topics, including convergence, media representation, leadership and visual communication. Some of her recent works include the textbook "Advertising Creative, Strategy, Copy & Design" published by Sage Publications, "Insecure #Awkward and Winning: Intersectionality in the works of Issa Rae" from Peter Lang Publications, and the "ADColor's State of the Workplace Study: Retention Outlook Through An Inclusive Lens."
Joanna is also an active mentor and alumni of Pratt and Howard University.
